NSW police renew appeal into attempted armed robbery of security guard

Detectives are renewing an appeal for public assistance into the attempted armed robbery of a security guard near Newcastle in 2014, NSW Police say.

About 3pm on 19 December 2014, the 45-year-old guard was confronted by three men behind a bank on Alma Lane at Lambton.

The trio assaulted the man with batons and attempted to steal his bag, containing cash.

During the struggle, the security guard fired a shot at the group before they fled. They were last seen leaving the area in a white Ford Laser.

Emergency services were alerted and the man was treated for facial and head injuries.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad have conducted extensive inquiries into the incident and are renewing an appeal for public assistance.

They’ve released a computer-generated image of a man they believe can assist with the investigation.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 20 and 25 years, approximately 180cm tall, with dark hair in a mullet-style haircut.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
