NSW police vehicles rammed by stolen car during pursuit, two teens charged near Newcastle

Two teenagers have been charged after two police vehicles were hit during a pursuit near Newcastle last night., NSW Police say>

About 9.45pm (Friday 31 August 2018), officers from Lake Macquarie Police District were patrolling on Wakefield Road, Killingworth, when they attempted to stop a Nissan X-trail, believed to be stolen.

The Nissan allegedly slowed before turning and hitting the police vehicle and driving away.

A pursuit was initiated; however, it was stopped due to safety concerns.

At the intersection of Link Road and Transfield Avenue, Cameron Park, the Nissan hit a NSW Police Force Dog Unit vehicle and crashed.

The three occupants – two men, aged 18, and a 19-year-old woman – fled on foot.

They were arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station.

One of the men was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, se offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention (x2), take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, use registrable vehicle not display authorised number plates, drive recklessly/furiously or speed in manner dangerous.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Saturday 1 September 2018), where he was refused bail to reappear at Toronto Local Court on Monday (3 September 2018).

The second man was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Toronto Local Court on Tuesday 25 September 2018.

The 19-year-old woman was released pending further inquiries.
