More than 60 volunteers and staff from the NSW State Emergency Service will march in this year's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
A NSW SES medium storm truck is being decorated especially for the night with a rainbow flag design, to celebrate the 11th year that NSW SES members from across the state have participated in Sydney's iconic parade. This annual event is an important part of Australia's history, and the large crowds that participate and watch it, often bring Sydney to a standstill.
"Our organisation has over 9000 members across NSW who reflect the diversity of the many communities they serve" said NSW SES Deputy Commissioner for Strategy and Support Fatima Abbas.
"It's important to create an environment where people feel safe, irrespective of sexuality or gender identity."
NSW SES volunteers come from all walks of life and bringing with them a wide range of skills, experiences and backgrounds to the roles they perform when saving lives and protecting the community.
