NSW South Coast re-opens for business

Areas not directly impacted by the bushfires in the state's South Coast are in a position to re-open for business, it has been determined following an assessment meeting by NSW Police, NSW Rural Fire Service, Transport for NSW and local councils.

The eastern areas of the South Coast, such as the Shoalhaven, Basin and Far South Coast (Eurobodalla), where people normally holiday at this time of year, may now be in a position to re-open for business.

People who wish to travel to these areas are encouraged to contact their destination operators or accommodation providers to ensure they are operating before they set out.

Motorists are reminded that some roads remain closed and only accessible to local residents.

"Visitors are urged to observe road closures and respect the privacy of residents who have lost homes by avoiding fire-affected areas," Local Emergency Controller, Inspector Dave Cockram from the NSW Police Force said.

"There are numerous coastal villages ready and waiting to welcome visitors," he said.

There are still some fires on the South Coast west of the Princes Highway and although favourable conditions are predicted over the coming days, people who wish to travel to the South Coast should keep up to date with fire activity by monitoring the fires near me app.

National Parks remain closed until 1st February 2020.
