A P-plater has had his licence suspended and been fined more than $2,000 after exceeding the speed limit by over 70km/h.
On Friday night, officers from the Parramatta Motorcycle Response Team were performing speed enforcement duties in North Parramatta.
Around 8.40pm, they clocked a Volkswagen Golf travelling at 161km/h along a sign-posted 90km/h section of James Ruse Drive.
Officers stopped the car and spoke to the 17-year-old driver, a P1 Licence holder.

Police subsequently suspended the teen’s licence for six months and issued him with an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h – an offence which carries a $2,306 fine.
Assistant Commissioner John Hartley, Commander of the state’s Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, said that at this speed, the outcome would most certainly be fatal in the event of a crash.
“You can’t predict what might happen ahead,” Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.
“If there was a need to brake or take evasive action, for whatever reason, this driver would have put himself and other innocent road users at great risk in a high speed crash.
“Rather than having us knock on the door of this driver’s loved ones late at night to inform them of a tragedy, he gets to go home safely, albeit with a significant fine and no licence. Those who continue to speed on our roads can only hope for a similar outcome.”
