The OECD Council has today decided to renew the mandate of OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann for a second and final 5-year term from 1 June 2026.
The decision by Member consensus followed a process of consultations lead by the Dean of Ambassadors, the OECD Ambassador for Mexico Sybel Galván Gómez over the past two months.
"This decision reflects the strong and broad-based confidence that Members place in Mathias Cormann's leadership," said Ambassador Sybel Galván Gómez, who chaired a special session of the Council on Friday. "Over the course of his first term, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the core mission of the OECD: promoting better policies for better lives. A few months after his arrival, Members adopted 'Trust in Global Co-operation: The vision for the OECD for the next decade', a framework that will continue to guide our work over these next six years."
"I am grateful for the trust and confidence OECD Members have placed in me to continue to lead this great Organisation," Secretary-General Mathias Cormann said. "The OECD is a unique, consensus-based organisation that brings together a community of countries around shared values, working together to develop evidence-based policy advice and standards to help deliver better outcomes and living standards for people around the world. I will give it my absolute best to help ensure that the OECD continues to deliver as a platform for the development of policy best practice and effective international cooperation," he said.
