Off-duty officer stabbed, NSW

An off-duty police officer is undergoing surgery after being stabbed outside community hall in Bonnyrigg Heights, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to the hall on Chopin Close, Bonnyrigg Heights, about 10.55pm (Friday 17 August 2018), and found a 36-year-old man with a stab wound to his torso.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital where he is undergoing surgery.

Police have been told the officer intervened in an altercation outside the hall when he was injured.

He was off duty at the time of the incident.

He is reported to be in a serious but stable condition.

A man was arrested at the scene and a weapon has been seized for forensic examination.

Inquiries are continuing into the identity of two other people believed to be in the vicinity at the time.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command have established a crime scene and detectives are currently speaking with witnesses.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to call Fairfield Police or Crime Stoppers.
