Officer Charged Over Drink Driving - Southern Region

An off-duty police officer has been charged after allegedly drink driving in the Illawarra area yesterday.

About 6.20pm (Wednesday 25 March 2026), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District stopped a vehicle entering a carpark on Lake Avenue, at Cringila.

The driver – a 39-year-old male senior constable attached to a Southern Region command – was subjected to a roadside breath test, which allegedly return a positive reading.

He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he underwent further breath analysis, which allegedly returned a reading of 0.111.

The man was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice and charged with drive with mid-range PCA. His driver's licence was also suspended.

He is due to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 5 May 2026.

The officer's employment status is under review.
