Officer charged over police vehicle crash

A 39-year-old male constable from northern Tasmania has today been charged in relation to a fatal crash involving a police vehicle in Launceston on 6 January 2020.

The constable was allegedly driving the police vehicle and was on-duty at the time.

He has been charged with manslaughter, causing grievous bodily harm and driving offences.

The constable has been stood down from duty and will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on 8 July 2020.

It is not appropriate to make any further comment as the matter is now before the court.
