A police officer has been charged with driving offences.
About 11pm on Saturday 14 February 2026, officers attached to the South West Metropolitan Region attempted to stop an e-bike rider who was allegedly riding without a helmet and lights on Gwynne Street, Ashcroft.
When the rider allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated, continuing through the streets of Ashcroft and Sadleir.
A short time later, the rider entered the intersection of Bungulla Street and Bencubbin Street, Sadleir, before hitting a pole.
The male rider was treated at the scene by officers and NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
A crime scene was established and a critical incident team from Auburn Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
On Friday 31 July 2026 the man was charged with a number of matters over the incident where he remains before the courts.
Following the investigation, a police officer who was allegedly the driver of a fully marked police vehicle during the pursuit was yesterday (Monday 24 August 2026) issued with Court Attendance Notices for the offences of Dangerous Driving Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm (drive manner dangerous) and Negligent Driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm).
The 28-year-old male Senior Constable is due to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Tuesday 6 October 2026.
The officer's employment status is currently under review.
