A police officer has been charged following an investigation into alleged fraudulent insurance claims.
In April 2023, Strike Force Merthyr was established to investigate after two vehicles were suspiciously destroyed by fire in the Murray River region.
Following inquiries, a 34-year-old male constable - attached to a command in the Southern Region - was arrested in Sydney today (January 22 2024) and charged for dishonestly for gain destroy property by fire/explosive, attempt to dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, do act with intent to pervert the course of justice and possess bestiality material
Police will allege in court that the officer submitted a false insurance claim for the two vehicles.
He will appear at Albury Local Court on Monday 11 March 2024.
The officer's employment status is currently under review.
