Officer Hurt in St Kilda Motorcycle Intercept

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses after a police officer was injured attempting to intercept a motorcycle rider in St Kilda on 20 August.

Police were on patrol when they observed a Grey Yamaha R1 Sports motorcycle travelling south along Chapel Street about 3.15pm.

Checks revealed that the Yamaha had cloned plates affixed to rear of the motorcycle.

Officers attempted to intercept and speak to the rider at the intersection of Chapel Street and Brighton Road.

A member approached the rider on foot but was injured when the rider drove away.

The Yamaha was last seen speeding south along the Nepean Highway.

The officer, a senior constable from the State Highway Patrol sustained minor injuries.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, as they work to establish the circumstances of the incident and who was driving.
