Officer injured as driver flees Parramatta crash site, NSW

Police search for driver who fled after a crash following a low-speed police pursuit at Parramatta overnight, NSW Police say.

Just after 8pm (Thursday 13 September 2018), Traffic & Highway Patrol Officers were at the intersection of The Great Western Highway and Marsden Street, when they saw a blue Toyota Yaris drive through the intersection, disobeying a red traffic signal.

Police activated their lights and sirens but the Toyota did not stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The Toyota travelled to Church Street before stopping in traffic, and officers attempted to smash the driver’s side window. The vehicle accelerated, running over an officer’s foot.

Police saw the vehicle continue along Church Street and terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns.

About 10 minutes later, police were alerted to a crash at the intersection of Argyle and Marsden Streets involving the same blue Toyota Yaris and a Toyota Camry.

The driver of the Yaris was last seen running towards a nearby shopping centre. He has not been located.

The officer suffered a minor foot injury and the occupants of the Camry were uninjured.

Inquiries continue.
