A police officer has been injured during the arrest of a man over an alleged detainment in Sydney's south west.
About 2am (Thursday 7 November 2019), officers from Bankstown Police Area Command were called to a property in Chester Hill, following reports a 25-year-old woman was being held against her will.
On arrival, a 29-year-old man allegedly charged at officers and struggled as they tried to arrest him.
It will be alleged a male constable suffered a deep cut to his right forearm when he was pushed into a porcelain sink; causing it to break.
The 29-year-old man was then pursued on foot by the injured officer and a female leading senior constable and, after a short struggle, he was arrested.
The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with seven offences, including:
- wound police officer executing duty reckless as to actual bodily harm,
- assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm,
- two counts of resist officer in execution of duty,
- take person intend commit serious indictable offence,
- assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and
- intentionally choke person without consent.
He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Thursday 7 November 2019).
The constable was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition for surgery.
