Officers blitz rail network, Operation Safe Tracks, NSW

Eight people were arrested and 19 charges laid in a blitz on rail networks in Sydney’s south west yesterday, NSW Police say.

Operation Safe Tracks - aimed at reducing crime and keeping people safe on the rail network - ran for ten hours, starting at 2pm yesterday.

25 officers from Macquarie Fields, Campbelltown and Liverpool Local Area Commands with assistance of officers from the Police Transport Command (PTC) were out in force yesterday, patrolling the rail network across South West Sydney.

The operation targeted commuter behaviour, with a focus on property offences, drug-related crime, anti-social behaviour, graffiti, stealing, and transport offences.

19 charges were laid against eight people for offences relating to drug possession, stealing, and goods in custody. Police also issued 19 infringements for rail offences.

Police will continue to target offences on the rail network with further operations expected to be conducted throughout the coming months.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
