OMCG Member Charged After Fawkner Incident

Detectives from Taskforce Echo have charged a man overnight following an incident in Fawkner which occurred early Monday morning.

Officers were patrolling in the vicinity of Star Court around 4.10am when they spotted a vehicle allegedly travelling at excessive speed.

It will be alleged the vehicle then sped off on police before it was dumped outside a church on Sydney Road.

Officers cordoned off the area and located two firearms that had been discarded.

A Dog Squad unit was called in and located a 36-year-old Sebastopol man hiding in a shed.

The man was transported to hospital under police guard for treatment of pre-existing injuries.

The man, believed to be a patched member of the Finks OMCG, was charged overnight with:

  • possession of a traffickable quantity of unregistered firearms
  • prohibited person possess a firearm
  • prohibited person possess a handgun
  • two counts of possess loaded firearm in a public place
  • theft of motor vehicle
  • learner driver without supervising driver
  • enter intersection against red light
  • careless driving
  • possess ammunition without licence
  • theft, and
  • fraudulently use vehicle licence plate.

He will appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court today.
