Detectives from Taskforce Echo have charged a man overnight following an incident in Fawkner which occurred early Monday morning.
Officers were patrolling in the vicinity of Star Court around 4.10am when they spotted a vehicle allegedly travelling at excessive speed.
It will be alleged the vehicle then sped off on police before it was dumped outside a church on Sydney Road.
Officers cordoned off the area and located two firearms that had been discarded.
A Dog Squad unit was called in and located a 36-year-old Sebastopol man hiding in a shed.
The man was transported to hospital under police guard for treatment of pre-existing injuries.
The man, believed to be a patched member of the Finks OMCG, was charged overnight with:
- possession of a traffickable quantity of unregistered firearms
- prohibited person possess a firearm
- prohibited person possess a handgun
- two counts of possess loaded firearm in a public place
- theft of motor vehicle
- learner driver without supervising driver
- enter intersection against red light
- careless driving
- possess ammunition without licence
- theft, and
- fraudulently use vehicle licence plate.
He will appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court today.
