On cloud nine: Optus works with VMware to ramp up SD-WAN services in Australia

- New solution capable of future 5G integration

Optus today announced that it is working with VMware, a global leader in cloud, networking and security, to deliver their industry leading VMware SD-WAN solution to Australian enterprises.

VMware offers a unique experience by working across both fixed and wireless connectivity which provides enterprise customers with mobile data backup and more flexibility on how to connect their services. As Optus 5G rolls out in more areas, this provides the future opportunity for 5G wireless to be integrated as the primary connection, resulting in a reduced time to market, quicker deployment times, plus higher speeds and reduced latency.

Deon Liebenberg, Optus Enterprise Vice President of Product Innovation, said: Our exciting partnership with VMware is part of Optus Enterprises strategy to work with global leaders to provide our enterprise customers with a greater choice of digital networking solutions fit for their unique needs. VMware Dynamic Multipath Optimization, a key VMware SD-WAN capability, offers our enterprise customers an improved experience with the ability to measure live network conditions and react with a diverse range of processes to maximise performance.

The service will also enhance user experiences across common business tools, such as Microsoft 365 and Amazon Web Services-delivered cloud services. By combining Optus strong 4G and 5G network with VMware SD-WAN, we look forward to enabling transformative cloud access and mobile experience, particularly for branch and home users.

Ron Longo, Vice President Worldwide Service Provider Sales, VMware, said: VMware SD-WAN is a foundational component of the VMware Secure Access Service Edge platform and offers operational simplicity and more secure access in an increasingly work from anywhere environment. It delivers a great customer experience and a cost-efficient way for businesses to improve their network performance, experience and security. Were thrilled to strengthen our relationship with Optus to reduce network complexity and give IT teams more time to focus on other business challenges and drive innovation and strategic outcomes across their business.

The partnership with VMware builds upon Optus highly successful, 10-year history of providing cloud capabilities to large Australian enterprises. Combined with Optus national network, VMware SD-WAN will help simplify and automate enterprise branch networking, while providing businesses the ability to rapidly change their network design in response to increased connectivity demands and support next-generation technologies.

The agreement is a significant enhancement to Optus SD-WAN capabilities which provides Australian businesses access to the latest cutting-edge network technologies to support their digital ambitions. It is part of Optus commitment to work with trusted and global, best-in-class technology partners to help Australian businesses stay competitive and navigate the rapidly changing business landscape with the right systems, services and applications they need to grow and succeed.
