One dead and four injured in Portland North collision

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal collision in Portland North this afternoon, Victoria Police say.

A logging truck and two cars have collided at the intersection of Nelson-Portland and Westlakes roads about 3pm.

A woman from one vehicle, containing four occupants, was declared deceased at the scene.

The other three occupants were all injured – one woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries and two men are being treated as the scene for minor injuries.

Emergency services are still working to free the male driver of the second vehicle from the wreckage.

The truck driver, a 59-year-old South Australian man, was not injured.

He was arrested at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

A second truck was also involved in the collision but sustained only minor damage.

Police are investigating the incident and urge anyone who witnessed the collision or with dash cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
