One kilogram cocaine seized, man charged after pursuit in Wentworthville

Police have charged a man after one kilogram of white powder, believed to be cocaine, was found following a pursuit at Wentworthville yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just after 7pm (Wednesday 28 February 2018), two officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command’s Motorcycle Response Group stopped a Kia Cerato on Old Prospect Road after the driver was allegedly seen using his phone.

A pursuit was initiated after the driver accelerated away from officers.

A short time later, the vehicle crashed into the kerb on Ringrose Avenue, and the driver ran from the car; however, he was apprehended following a short foot pursuit.

During a search of a shopping bag found next to the man, police located approximately one kilogram of white powder, believed to be cocaine.

A second plastic bag was found, containing almost $50,000 cash.

The drugs and cash were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

The 31-year-old man was taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with driver use mobile phone when not permitted, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, supply prohibited drug – large commercial quantity, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

The man was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Thursday 1 March 2018).
