One teen serious, another in hospital following near-drowning in Bondi

Police are investigating following the near-drowning of two youths in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, NSW Police say.

Just before 12.30pm today, emergency services were called to Bondi Beach, Bondi, following reports several youths were seen to be struggling in the water.

Police have been told a group of international students were swimming between the flags when seven males were hit by a large wave and began to struggle.

Bondi Lifeguards assisted the teens from the water and commenced first aid on two of them.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated the two 16-year-old boys at the scene.

One was taken to St Vincent's Hospital and remains in a serious condition. The second was taken to Prince of Wales Children’s Hospital; his condition is unknown.

Five other teens were assessed at the scene by paramedics, before being taken to Prince of Wales Hospital as a precaution.

Officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Local Area Command are conducting inquiries into the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
