The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:
“December 10 marks one year since Canadians Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor were arbitrarily detained in China.
“Since then, they have not had access to a lawyer and have been denied contact with their families and loved ones.
“These two Canadians are and will remain our absolute priority. We will continue to work tirelessly to secure their immediate release and to stand up for them as a government and as Canadians.
“We are grateful to the many countries around the world that have expressed support for Mr. Kovrig and Mr. Spavor.”
