Ongoing Surge Response Arrests At Townsville

Police continue to target property crime offences across Townsville.

Since 9 August, police have arrested 582 offenders – 475 adults and 107 juveniles – on 1,809 charges, including property crime, drug and weapons offences.

Local police have conducted 948 bail checks and located 18 weapons out of 1,709 wandings as part of the high-visibility patrols.

Police charged a teenage boy with 12 property crime offences following his arrest in Vincent on 5 September.

He was charged with alleged offences committed between 3 and 4 September including burglaries in Minehane Street in Cluden and Noscov Crescent in Kelso, a burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in Columbus Street in Burdell and multiple burglaries and attempted burglaries in Gadsden Loop in Mount Louisa.

The 15-year-old Palm Island boy was charged with five counts of attempted enter dwelling and commit, four counts of enter dwelling and commit, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of wearing a face mask with intent. He was remanded in custody and is due to re-appear in Townsville Childrens Court on 30 September.

Police conducted a search warrant of a residence in Hyde Park on 5 September and charged four people with 14 offences including drug offences relating to methylamphetamines.

Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) charged a 39-year-old Garbutt man with multiple offences including three counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of unlawful possession of a weapon, possess property suspected of having been acquired for the purpose of committing a drug offence, possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, possess property suspected of being the proceeds of a drug offence, possessing restricted items and possess tainted property. He was remanded in custody and is due to re-appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on 12 November.

A 30-year-old Hyde Park man was also charged with possessing dangerous drugs, possessing restricted drugs and possess drug utensils. He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on 23 September.

A 32-year-old Hyde Park woman was charged with possessing dangerous drugs and possess drug utensils. She is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on 8 October.

A woman was charged with weapons offences following a wanding operation in a club in Hyde Park on 2 September.

A 34-year-old Hermit Park woman was charged with one count of possession of a knife in a public place. She is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on 24 September.

Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said the ongoing efforts of local police including Tactical Crime Squad, Dog Squad, Polair and general duties officers was outstanding.

"The persistent efforts of all officers have been exceptional as police continue to locate and arrest recidivist offenders.

"While our current operational response is focussed and relentless, we will continue to utilise any additional personnel from South East Queensland to support our frontline officers, conduct proactive, targeted patrols and bail compliance checks as well as assist with investigations.

"As always, we thank the community for their ongoing support by providing vital information enabling police to hold these offenders to account and put them before the courts," Detective Inspector Shepherd said.
