Operation Austrans detects disqualified drivers

Wodonga Highway Patrol members intercepted a disqualified driver operating a heavy rigid truck on the Murray Valley Highway, near Yarrawonga this morning, Victoria Police say.

The driver of the east-bound truck was initially intercepted while allegedly travelling 107km/hr in a 100km zone about 10.30am, as part of Operation Austrans.

The annual operation focusses on drugs and alcohol, speed, fatigue and compliance offences in truck and other heavy vehicle drivers across the state.

After initially providing police with a false name, the 25-year-old Wodonga man was found to be a disqualified driver, carrying no licence, and no work diary.

He will be summonsed to court at a later date.

A short time later the members nabbed an unlicensed driver in Numukah.

The driver of an unregistered VS Holden Commodore was intercepted on Murray Avenue about 12.15pm.

The 32-year-old Shepparton man told police he held a disqualified licence on which he had accrued 90 demerit points.

He was arrested for outstanding warrants and remanded to appear in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
