Operation Colossus targets offences on public transport in the Illawarra region, NSW

Three people have been charged after a saturation-style operation by transport police in the Illawarra area, NSW Police say.

Operation Colossus was conducted by the Police Transport & Public Safety Command across Illawarra region yesterday (Thursday 3 May 2018), with 37 uniformed and specialist officers deployed on all modes of public transport and at transport hubs to target criminal behaviour and ensure commuter safety.

Two males were charged, including a juvenile for custody of a knife at in a public place at Bellambi, and another juvenile for possession of cannabis at Wollongong Railway Station.

A 21-year-old male was issued a cannabis caution for possession of cannabis at Dapto Railway Station.

In addition, 45 infringements were issued, 33 person searches were conducted, and 24 move-on directions were issued.

Police patrolled 44 railway stations and 18 bus patrols.

Similar operations are planned to take place on the public transport network in the future.
