Operation Darebin gets drugs and weapons off the street

Four people from the northern suburbs of Melbourne have been arrested as part of an operation by the Darebin Tasking Team, Victoria Police say.

High and low visibility patrols resulted in arrests for drugs, weapons offences and theft.

Other offences detected included traffic related offences such as allegedly driving whilst suspended, alleged driving of unregistered motor vehicles and the use of false number plates.

In addition, police also detected two offenders with a combined total of four outstanding warrants of apprehension, two drink drivers and an offender who was wanted in relation to a criminal damage matter.

The operation has achieved its desired result in reducing crime by getting drugs and weapons off the street as well as preventing intoxicated drivers from putting the community at risk of serious injury or even death.

The four arrested have been charged with theft from motor vehicle, possession of heroin, possession of cannabis, possession of a controlled weapon and criminal damage.

Other offenders detected as part of the operation are likely to be charged on summons to appear in court at a later date.
