Operation ECHO - Katherine

Northern Territory Police have completed a six-week long operation in Katherine.

Operation ECHO commenced on 7 February 2018 with the focus of investigating a crime series of property offending in Katherine. Operation ECHO was a collaborative operation utilising resources from Central Investigations, Katherine Field Intelligence Officers, Katherine General Duties, (GDs) and Central Division Bush Stations, Northern Territory Police say

Operation ECHO has significantly reduced the amount of property matters in Katherine where 191 property related offences identified during the period.

Approximately one quarter of these property offences were preventable with increased security awareness and vigilance.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Malogorski said "police encourage Katherine residents and business owners to support the Lock It or Lose It campaign to prevent and discourage property offending and report suspicious activity".

As a result of the operation, six adults and seven youths were arrested. Ten youths were considered for youth diversion. Four summons were issued and there were seven written warnings.
