Operation Northrop; cocaine, cash and cars seized, 36 arrested, NSW

Redfern Region Enforcement Squad (Redfern RES) with assistance from Central Metropolitan Local Area Commands have broken down a number of alleged organised criminal groups operating across Sydney, resulting in more than 30 arrests, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Northrop was established in September 2017 by detectives attached to Redfern RES to target the ongoing supply of cocaine within the Central Metropolitan Region.

In November 2017, 28 men and 8 women were arrested with search warrants executed at various locations across Sydney, where police allegedly located and seized cocaine, MDMA, steroids, cars, more than $120000 in cash, mobile phones, two firearms and ammunition.

About 2pm on Friday 17 November 2017, a 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were arrested in O’Connell Street, Sydney, before being taken to Day Street Police Station, after police allegedly located cocaine and more than $2500 in cash.

A 30-year-old Wolli Creek man was charged with participate in criminal group, supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, four counts of supply prohibited drug greater than small and less than indictable, five counts of supply prohibited drug less than small quantity, four counts of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, two counts of knowingly deal with proceeds of crime and, two counts of supply prohibited drug greater than indictable quantity.

The 26-year-old Allawah woman was charged with participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, three counts of supply prohibited drug greater than small and less than indictable, five counts of supply prohibited drug less than small quantity, two counts of knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, supply prohibited drug greater than indictable quantity and possess prohibited drug.

Both were granted conditional bail and are due to reappear at Central Local Court on Thursday 25 January 2018.

Following inquiries, police attended a unit on Ann Street, Wolli Creek, where a 20-year-old Carramar man was arrested at the property. He was charged with participate criminal group contribute criminal, supply prohibited drug greater than indictable quantity, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit, knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, possess prohibited drug.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to reappear at Central Local Court on Thursday 25 January 2018

Police arrested two men, aged 23 and 24 in Bond Street, Sydney, about 7pm on Friday 24 November 2017.

During a search of their vehicle, police allegedly located 19 bags of cocaine and more than $2200 in cash.

The 24-year-old Bankstown man was charged with participate in criminal group, supply prohibited drug on ongoing basis, nine counts of supply prohibited drug, two counts of knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, and resist arrest.

The 23-year-old Greenacre man was charged with participate in criminal group, two counts of supply prohibited drug, knowingly deal with proceeds of crime and resist arrest.

Both were refused bail and are due to reappear at Central Local Court on Thursday 18 January 2018.

A search warrant was executed at a home in Paddington, after a 28-year-old man was arrested, on Underwood Street on Saturday 25 November 2017. Police will allege in court to have located cocaine and more than $30000 in cash.

The Paddington man was charged with two counts of knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime, five counts of supply prohibited drug, ongoing drug supply and breach of bail. He was granted conditional bail and is due to reappear at Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 23 January 2018.

Police arrested two women, aged 25 and 26 on Wednesday 29 November 2017 at Penshurst and Concord West. Both women were charged with knowingly participate in criminal group, supply prohibited drugs, along with other charges.

The 25-year-old South Hurstville woman was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 24 January 2018

The 26-year-old Wentworth Point woman was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday 18 December 2017.

On 30 November, a 31-year-old man was arrested in Campsie. During a search of a vehicle and property, police allegedly located and seized cocaine, two firearms with ammunition and more than $25000 in cash.

The Campsie man was charged with supply prohibited drugs on ongoing basis, supply prohibited drug greater than or equal to commercial quantity and deal with proceeds of crime. He was refused bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Friday 1 December 2017).

About 10.30am today (Friday 1 December 2017), police attended a business in Sydney, where three people were arrested and are currently assisting with inquiries at Day Street Police Station.

  • 35-year-old woman from Constitution Hill
  • 23-year-old man from Randwick
  • 44-year-old man from Neutral Bay
  • 25 and 23-year-old men and a 32-year-old woman from Bondi Beach
  • 33-year-old man from Petersham
  • 38-year-old man from Castle Hill

Charges include supply prohibited drug, knowingly participate in criminal group, ongoing drug supply, deal with proceeds of crime and, possess prohibited drug.
