Operation Perseus focuses on southern suburbs, SA

On Wednesday 20 September, police conducted Operation Perseus; a road safety operation focusing on the southern suburbs, according to SA Police.

Since 1 January this year, three people, including a pedestrian and two motorcyclists, have been killed in vehicle collisions on roads within the South Coast Local Service Area.

During the same time frame, there have been 210 casualty crashes, with 35 of these occurring on Main South Road, six on Dyson Road and five on the Southern Expressway.

"We involved more than 30 police officers in this operation, with a highly visible police presence along Main South Road at Morphett Vale, Dyson Road, Christies Beach and Main South Road, Old Noarlunga at the exit of the Southern Expressway from 3.30pm until 9pm, " says Superintendent Anthony Fioravanti, officer in charge of Traffic Support Branch.

"This year to date, 75 lives have been lost in crashes across the state. Police are employing tactics such as Operation Perseus to stop the carnage on our roads.

"Police are serious about reducing trauma on our roads, but we need every driver and every road user to be equally as serious.

"Police will continue to target areas with specific operations but it always comes back to the road user.

"While most drivers do the right thing, and we praise them for their attentiveness and compliance, there continues to be a small element who continue to put themselves and others in danger."

During yesterday's operation, 338 drivers were alcotested, with three drivers detected over the legal blood alcohol limit.

A 32-year-old Moana man and a 45-year-old Morphett Vale man both recorded blood alcohol readings of 0.057 and a 27-year-old Hallett Cove man blew 0.069.
