Operation Safe Long Weekend June 2016, SA

In a bid to make this weekend fatality free, police will be running Operation Safe Long Weekend June 2016 from 3pm tomorrow Friday, 10 June, according to SA Police.

The last four June long weekends have seen a total of eight deaths and 26 serious injuries from 28 serious injury crashes.

Inspector Ben Spencer Investigations Manager, Traffic Support Branch, says last June long weekend four people lost their lives on our roads.

"Drivers have the control of their safety and the safety of their passengers at their fingertips. By complying with well known, basic safety measures, every driver can help change direction towards safer roads for us all.

"Police ask all drivers to consider their trip before they set off and allow time in traffic when planning your trip, including the drive back.

"If you’re heading off to the Sea and Vines festival at McLaren Vale, choose a non–drinking driver before you start your day, or take public transport to the event.

"Police will be conducting driver drink and drug testing state-wide, so don’t lose your licence, or worse still, your life, this weekend because of drink driving."

Tips to remember:

Don’t speed,
Don’t drink or drug drive
Wear seatbelts and make sure your passengers do as well.
Don’t be distracted by your mobile phone when driving
Drive according to the conditions
Don’t drive when you are feeling tired
