Operation Safe Speed slows down drivers

Police detected 384 drivers committing speed offences during a four day blitz last week, with 9 vehicles being impounded.

From Thursday 18 May to Sunday 21 May, Operation Safe Speed uncovered an alarming number of South Australian motorists who still choose to drive above the speed limit on our metropolitan and regional roads.

The last Operation Safe Speed was conducted in October 2022. During that operation 513 speed offences were detected.

Superintendent Darren Fielke, Officer in Charge Traffic Services Branch says that while the drop in the number of speeding offences detected is pleasing, police are still concerned about the number of drivers caught driving over the speed limit.

"Every driver that chooses to exceed the speed limit, even by only a few kilometres per hour is putting themselves and other road users at risk of a serious or fatal crash.

No type of speeding is safe and every driver is responsible for paying attention to their speed and driving to the conditions of the road, at all times."

Police will continue to target drivers who exceed the speed limit on South Australian roads.

Any incidents of dangerous driving should be reported via the Police Assistance Line on 131444.
