Operation 'Towards Zero' - Focusing on pedestrian, road rules and excessive speed, NSW

Police from Traffic Task Force conducted a high visibility operation yesterday today, targeting pedestrian, road rule and exceed speed offences within the North Shore, Blacktown and Liverpool Local Area Commands, NSW Police say.

Infringements issued as a result of yesterday’s operation, run between 9am and 5.30pm include:

• Pedestrian offences (x119)

• Pedestrian cautions (x29)

• Exceed speed offences (x7)

• Mobile Phone offences (x22)

• Seat Belt offences (x2)

• Red light offences (x4)

• Excessive Load offences (x2)

• Other infringement notices (x18)

• Defect notices (x1)

Traffic & Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner John Hartley, said that while this particular operation was focused at major intersections and high risk routes, road users will continue to see more police on roads throughout NSW to address the state's road toll.

"Both drivers and pedestrians need to reflect and consider their on-road behaviour, particularly with more distractions and busier roads," Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.

"Personal responsibility is the key for road users and this is a point we can’t stress enough on. The vast majority of crashes we respond to are avoidable if the driver, rider or pedestrian was abiding by the road rules," Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
