Opportunity for young designers and artists to make Yo Bendigo building more welcoming

The City of Greater Bendigo Youth Council is encouraging young designers and artists aged between 12 and 25 to enter a design competition to create a new concept artwork that will promote the Yo Bendigo building located at 45 Mundy Street Bendigo.

The winning designer will take home a $500 prize and their design will be installed on the front of the building.

City of Greater Bendigo Youth Mayor Khayshie Tilak Ramesh said the Yo Bendigo building is a place for young people where they can learn, grow, have fun and participate.

"The Yo Bendigo building is a hive of activity for young people but it needs a bit of a facelift to make it stand out from neighbouring businesses and to be more welcoming to young people," Khayshie said.

"We really want to promote and encourage more young people to use the building.

"This competition provides a really good opportunity to support and promote young local designers and artists in Bendigo.

"Not only will the successful design win $500, but the winning designer will also receive mentoring from industry professionals to refine the final concept before it is installed on the building by a signwriting company.

"This is exciting and we are looking forward to seeing some really creative entries.

"While there is no theme, designers do need to propose an original artwork that doesn't cause offence and is suitable for display in a public place. Their design should also best demonstrate creative practice, talent and skill."

Entries must be submitted by 5pm Monday May 27 to [email protected]

Submissions will be assessed and the winning entry will be selected before the end of May to allow the new artwork to be installed in June.
