In a significant step toward enhancing regional security, 19 participants from across Central Asia successfully completed a critical training course on Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) in Issyk Kul, Kyrgyzstan, from August 4 to 9.
The training was a testament to the strong collaborative spirit between the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, and the Ministry of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic, who co-organized the event. This initiative was designed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of regional experts in safe ammunition management and security protocols, a practice vital for preventing accidental explosions and the diversion of dangerous materials.
The comprehensive curriculum was delivered by the renowned Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) Ammunition Management Advisory Team (AMAT), global leaders in this field. Through a combination of in-depth theoretical instruction and practical exercises, participants were equipped with the skills necessary to implement international standards, including those from the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATG). This training is crucial for building a more resilient and secure environment for all.
This initiative was made possible through the generous funding of the U.S. Department of State. Their support underscores a shared commitment to fostering greater stability and security in the region. By investing in the expertise of local personnel, this partnership is helping to build a safer future and reduce the risks associated with unsecured ammunition stockpiles for Central Asia.
The successful completion of this training marks an important milestone in our collective efforts to promote regional security and partnership.
