Mount Morgan has struck gold in round one of the 2021-22 Community Assistance Program, with nearly 60% of funding going toward events and organisations in the historic township.

Communities & Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said this was a fantastic outcome.

"The Community Assistance Program is open to organisations across the region," Cr Wickerson said.

"It's all about supporting those projects and initiatives that really benefit our community, and it's something we're very proud to deliver.

"This round it has been wonderful to see so many applications from Mount Morgan, and it's absolutely our pleasure to support these initiatives.

"These include the Mount Morgan Agricultural Show taking place this weekend, as well as applications from the Golden Mount Shooters Association and the Mount Morgan Rodeo. We're also proud to support two applications from Mount Morgan Promotion and Development Inc for sound scaping the Mount Morgan Railway Museum and the eagerly awaited Wattle Day Festival to be held in September.

"This round we also saw more than $22,000 in funding and support shared across five more initiatives across the Region, including a first for Rockhampton in hosting the Australian Caravan Club national Muster – Rockin' in Rocky – which is set to take place in October."

Division 5 Councillor Cherie Rutherford said it was great to see such strong and diverse applications put forward by the Mount Morgan community in this round.

"We know the struggle so many community groups and event organisers have had of late with the unpredictability of COVID, so I really want to congratulate the community members who have submitted these applications and continued to strive toward delivering great events and projects," Cr Rutherford said.

"Each of these applications are deserving and I am thrilled that we have been able to support each and every one.

"As always it's incredible to see such strong advocates for this historic community.

"I would encourage everyone in the region to come along to the Mount Morgan Agricultural Show this Saturday – it's going to be a fantastic event with plenty of entertainment for the whole family."

Treasurer of the Mount Morgan Agricultural Show society Michael Rowe said it's shaping up to be a great day.

"We wouldn't be able to run the show without the support of Rockhampton Regional Council," Mr Rowe said.

"We've got 50 stall sites booked in as well as rides, and entries for our events are filling up.

"We're expecting to have a really good show, and we can't wait to see everyone enjoying the event on Saturday."
