Pair airlifted suffering minor injuries, NSW

Two men have been airlifted to safety after swimming at the Royal National Park yesterday.

About 6pm today, emergency services were called to the ‘Figure Eight Pools’ at the southern end of the park, following reports of people in trouble following a rise in tide.

Officers attached to Wollongong Local Area Command, Police Rescue, SES, NSW Ambulance Paramedics, and Surf Life Savers attended a short time later.

The men, aged 28 and 29, were winched to safety by a NSW Ambulance Helicopter, NSW Police say.

The older man was taken to Sutherland Hospital to be treated for minor hypothermia and injuries.

The younger man was treated for minor hypothermia after being taken to Garie Beach car park; however did not require further treatment.

Police remind those planning on visiting the Royal National Park to check for weather conditions and tide times before heading out.
