Pair arrested and loaded firearm found

Two men have been arrested in Thomastown following reports of erratic driving in Reservoir this afternoon, Victoria Police say.

Police were initially flagged down by a member of the public, who reported a car had just missed crashing into a number of parked cars on Dole Avenue, just after 12.45pm.

The car, which was believed stolen, was pursued by police through Reservoir and Thomastown before it entered a reserve in Main Street.

Once in the reserve, the driver tried to crash the car through steel barriers into Gardenia Street but could not break through.

Police were quickly on scene where they arrested one man and another whilst he tried to run away.

The pair, a man aged in his 20s from Brunswick and a 22-year-old from Hadfield, are currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Another man and woman, also in the car, fled the scene and have not been found.

A loaded firearm was found in the car.

It is expected the two men in custody will be interviewed in relation to serious traffic offences and firearm offences.

Darebin Crime Investigation Unit is investigating and has a number of enquiries to make in relation to the outstanding pair.
