Pair charged after cancer patient's CT scan was stolen during Port Melbourne burglary

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested and charged two teenagers after a cancer patient’s CT scan was allegedly stolen during a burglary in Port Melbourne earlier this month, Victoria Police say.

It is alleged a white Nissan Patrol and a white Mini Cooper were stolen from a Stokes Street address about 3.40am on Saturday 15 October.

The owner, a 39-year-old man, was asleep inside the house with his wife and their four children at the time of the alleged burglary.

His wife, aged 41, is currently undergoing cancer treatment.

It was believed a copy of the victim’s most recent CT scan was in the back of the stolen Mini Cooper.

A 15-year-old Burwood boy and a 17-year-old Chadstone boy were arrested by police on 20 October.

Both teenagers have been charged with aggravated burglary, two counts of theft of motor vehicle and obtain property by deception.

The 17-year-old boy was bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date while the 15-year-old boy was remanded in custody and will face a children’s court at a later date.

The Nissan Patrol was located in Langwarrin on 20 October while the mini Cooper was located the following day in Deer Park.

It is believed the CT scans were recovered in Mini Cooper and will be handed back to the victims.
