The Brisbane Hustlers will be chasing home town glory when they host the biggest carnival on the Australian gay rugby calendar at Ballymore from 13-15 September 2019.
Minister for Sport Mick de Brenni said the Brisbane Hustlers were a team everyone could take pride in.
"The Palaszczuk Government believes that nothing should stop Queenslanders getting involved in sport, regardless of your age, gender or sexuality.
"You can't be what you can't see, which is why we're supporting the Hustlers to provide role models to the next generation of players just like them.
"Historically, sports have not always been the most inclusive to the LGBTI+ community," Mr de Brenni said.
"The Hustlers have done an amazing job of breaking down barriers in sport, and I'm looking forward to cheering them on this weekend."
Member for McConnel Grace Grace said she was pleased to announce the Palaszczuk Government had contributed $19,500 to help bring the tournament back to Ballymore.
"Our community is proud of its inclusivity and I'm proud we were able to support the Hustlers to come back to Ballymore once again.
"It will empower more Queenslanders to enjoy physical activity to improve their health and wellbeing and build their connections to the community."
Hustlers Club President Jason Garrick said the club aims to create a safe and welcoming environment for any player, irrespective of their background or playing ability, to participate in community sport.
"We want to celebrate the idea that sport is for everyone," said Mr Garrick.
"Rugby creates a sense of family and we want to welcome people to Brisbane in the spirit of that rugby family.
"You can be any shape, any size, any background and be valued for who you are and your contribution on and off the field.
"We want to break down some of the barriers to participation for the next generation of rugby players and create opportunities for people to engage in their local community."
Purchas Cup will feature 180 players from eight teams and up to 1,000 spectators, making it the biggest tournament in its 15-year history. It's currently the only inclusive rugby tournament in the southern hemisphere.
The Purchas Cup aligns closely with Activate! Queensland – the state's first 10-year strategy for making physical activity a way of life for more Queenslanders, regardless of age, gender, background, financial status, location or ability.
