Parafield Gardens man charged with numerous firearm breaches, SA

Police have arrested a Parafield Gardens man and seized more than 70 firearms, following a search of the man's home yesterday, according to SA Police.

Just after 10am on Thursday 1 December, as part of Operation Secure, members of the Firearms Branch Operations
attended a Parafield Gardens home, to conduct a compliance audit on the licensed occupant.

On searching the premises, police discovered the man had 73 firearms not secured, while five of the firearms were not registered.

Police also located and seized a large quantity of ammunition which also wasn't secured as required, as well as two bayonets which are classified as prohibited weapons.

Police subsequently seized all 73 firearms, a quantity of ammunition and the two prohibited weapons.

A 77-year-old man from Parafield Gardens was arrested and charged breaches of firearms licence conditions, insecure ammunition and possess prohibited weapons.

He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

SAPOL remind all firearms licence holders that as part of Operation Secure, SAPOL will undertake compliance audits of firearms licence holders to ensure that firearms in their possession are not only registered but secured and stored in the required manner.

Failure to comply with these requirements can lead to heavy penalties and forfeiture of firearms.
