
These are the Sports Awards nominees in each category for the 2026 ceremony at Cooke Park on Monday, 26th January.
Sports Person of the Year
The Sports Person of the Year Award recognises an outstanding sporting achievement by an individual in open competition.
1. Malia Morrison
Malia Morrison is an exceptional young rugby league athlete whose dedication, skill, and leadership make her a standout candidate for Sports Person of the Year. In 2025, Malia played across multiple competitions, including the Parkes Marist U/17s League Tag, Space Cats League Tag, and senior Space Cats teams, earning accolades such as Best & Fairest, Best Forward, and the Old Boys Award.
She represented the NSWCCC U16 team, excelling in trial games, earning Player of the Match in her first game, and being voted Players' Player of the Week. Malia co-captained this team during their Townsville competition. She was also selected in the Western Rams representative side, travelling across regional NSW, and attended the Westpac NSWRL Regional Emerging Women's Academy at the Centre of Excellence.
Malia also captained the Lachlan District U16 team, which went undefeated and won the grand final, earning Best & Fairest for both her team and the competition. Humble, disciplined, and team-oriented, Malia exemplifies excellence, sportsmanship, and leadership on and off the field.
2. Dylan Sheedy
Dylan Sheedy is nominated for Sports Person of the Year following an outstanding 2025 Central West AFL season. His skill, leadership, and dedication were highlighted when he earned the title of Reserve Grade Leading Goal Kicker. Dylan opened the season in spectacular fashion, kicking five goals in the first game and six in the second, securing the top spot on the goal-kicking leaderboard and maintaining it throughout the year.
Beyond his scoring prowess, Dylan served as vice-captain, demonstrating exceptional leadership on and off the field. He consistently motivated teammates through strong communication, encouragement, and a lead-by-example attitude, becoming a guiding presence for the Panthers.
Dylan's combination of talent, consistency, and dedication has made him a central figure in his team's success. His achievements reflect not only his individual excellence but also his ability to inspire and elevate those around him. 3. Annabelle Teague
Annabelle Teague, a proud 15-year-old Wiradjuri student at Parkes Christian School, has already achieved extraordinary success in lawn bowls, far exceeding expectations for her age. In 2024 and 2025, she made history by winning both major Open Women's Club Championships in pairs and singles at just 14—the youngest ever to do so. Her singles victory earned her a place in the Open Women's Champion of Champions finals, where she competed against elite adult bowlers, including State representative Sarah Boddington and Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Natasha Van Eldik.
Annabelle has been recognised by Bowls NSW, Bowls Australia, and Commonwealth Games NSW, receiving awards and grants for her outstanding achievements. Her dedication to training, professionalism, and ability to perform under pressure reflect a maturity beyond her years. Representing her club, school, family, and state, Annabelle continues to inspire as a trailblazing young athlete in both junior and open-level competitions, making her a deserving nominee.
4. Toby Collins
Toby Collins is a highly talented hockey player, having represented NSW at multiple levels, including the 2025 U21s team (National silver medallists), the 2025 U18s indoor team, and selections for the 2026 U21 men's indoor and outdoor teams. Toby's skill, dedication, and leadership on the field have made him a key contributor at state and national competitions. His consistent performance and commitment to the sport highlight his potential as a rising star in Australian hockey.
5. Meg Searl
Meg Searl is a standout athlete whose selection in the 2025 NSW Country Women's Hockey team reflects her exceptional skill, dedication and competitive spirit. Throughout the year, Meg has consistently performed at a high level, demonstrating leadership, resilience and a strong commitment to excellence. She represents Parkes Shire with pride, serving as a role model for aspiring female athletes and contributing positively to the sporting community through her professionalism and sportsmanship.
6. Emmie Searl
Emmie Searl's selection in the 2025 NSW Country Women's Hockey team is a testament to her talent, work ethic and determination. Emmie has shown outstanding performance in competition, combined with a positive attitude and team-first approach. Her achievements highlight her commitment to personal development and high-level sport, while her representation of Parkes Shire at a state level inspires young athletes to pursue their sporting goals with confidence and dedication.
7. Tom Searl
Tom Searl earned selection in the 2025 NSW Country Men's Hockey team through consistent high-level performance and dedication to his sport. Known for his strong competitive drive and teamwork, Tom has demonstrated exceptional commitment both on and off the field. His achievements reflect not only his individual talent but also his role in strengthening regional sport, proudly representing Parkes Shire at the state level with integrity and professionalism.
8. Will Searl
Will Searl's selection in the 2025 NSW Country Men's Hockey team recognises his outstanding athletic ability and commitment to excellence. Throughout 2025, Will has shown impressive skill, discipline and sportsmanship, contributing strongly to team success. His dedication to training and competition, combined with his positive influence within the sporting community, makes him an excellent ambassador for Parkes Shire and a deserving nominee for Sports Person of the Year.
9. Elizabeth MacGregor
Elizabeth MacGregor is a proud Parkes local whose rise from junior rugby league to the elite NRLW competition highlights her exceptional talent, resilience and dedication. Beginning her journey with the Parkes Spacemen, Elizabeth progressed steadily through the representative ranks, earning NSWCCC honours in 2022 and 2023, Western Rams selection in 2023, and places in the Sydney Roosters Under 19s and Bulldogs Under 19s squads.
A career-defining moment came in July 2025 when Elizabeth made her NRLW debut for the Canterbury Bulldogs, scoring two tries and announcing herself as one of the game's emerging stars. Her performances reflect not only skill and athleticism, but also determination, shaped by extensive travel for training and recovery from injury.
Off the field, Elizabeth balances professional sport with university studies in Primary Teaching, full-time work at Parkes High School, and community involvement through learn-to-swim programs. Humble, hardworking and inspiring, she is a deserving nominee for Senior Sportsperson of the Year.
10. Madi Barcley-George
Madi Barclay‑George is a standout rugby union player with the Parkes Boars Senior Women's team, recognised for her physicality, consistency and leadership on the field. In 2025, she played a pivotal role in the Boars' campaign at the NSW Country Rugby Championships, where the senior women's side secured the Thomson Cup title. Madi's performance was exceptional, earning her multiple honours including Best Forward, Player of the Final and Players' Player, highlighting her influence and respect among teammates.
Her strong form and championship impact also led to selection in the NSW Country Rugby Union Corellas Squad, representing her region at higher representative level and underlining her quality against the best country players in the state.
Madi's commitment to rugby, competitive spirit and achievements with both club and regional squads make her a valued leader and role model within the Parkes and Central West rugby community.
Junior Sports Person of the Year
The Junior Sports Person of the Year Award recognises an outstanding sporting achievement by an individual.
1. Henry Kross
Henry Kross is the top-ranked U/17 squash player in Australia and one of the country's most promising young athletes. In 2025, Henry had an extraordinary year, winning multiple junior and men's titles, including the NSW U15 State Championships, Parkes and Dubbo Junior Opens, the U19 Western Silver AJST, and the Canberra Junior Open U19. He was runner-up at the Australian Junior Open and achieved top Australian honours at the British Junior Open.
Henry has been selected in the Squash Australia Junior Men's Talent Squad, the NSW Junior Elite Squad, and captained the winning Western Green Shield Team. He made history as the youngest-ever winner of both the Parkes and Forbes Men's Club Championships and earned a wildcard into his first professional Challenger tournament at just 15.
Beyond his achievements on court, Henry's dedication is evident in his fundraising efforts to compete internationally. A proud member of Parkes High, Parkes Squash, and Parkes Athletic, Henry is committed to training hard with his sights set on the World Games and Youth Commonwealth Games.
2. Saxon Gosper
Saxon Gosper has had an outstanding final year at Parkes East Primary School, achieving remarkable success across a wide range of sports. He represented his school in cricket, hockey, touch football, and rugby league, and proudly competed for Lachlan Sport in swimming, rugby league, touch football, soccer, cross country, and athletics. His dedication and skill earned him selection in the Western Region 11s Rugby League Team and the Western Region Athletics Team.
At the school swimming carnival, Saxon broke a 26-year-old record in the 11-year-old Boys 50m Butterfly and also won the Elliott Cup for fastest 50m freestyle and the Nikolic Cup for fastest 50m sprint. Beyond school, he competes in the Parkes Touch Competition with the Parkes Pumas, plays rugby league in the Parkes Marist competition, and swims competitively with the Parkes Sharks, achieving Bronze in the JX swim program and qualifying for the Speedo Sprint series finals.
Saxon's versatility, dedication, and sportsmanship make him a role model, with a bright future ahead in sport.
3. Poppy Rodgers
Poppy Rodgers, a Year 6 student at Parkes East Public School, has achieved outstanding success across a wide range of sports, including swimming, soccer, netball, rugby league, athletics, touch football, and rugby 7s. She has represented the Lachlan District Sports Association in athletics and touch football, earning selection in the Western Region PSSA Girls' touch football and rugby 7s teams.
Beyond school, Poppy plays rugby league in the Lachlan District Women's Under-12 team, where she was named top try scorer and most improved player. In the inaugural Parkes Marist U12 girls team, she was awarded best and fairest, and also competed in the Parkes Marist U14s League Tag team that reached the semi-finals.
Poppy is actively involved in touch football with the Parkes Pumas, competing in senior girls, women's, and mixed competitions, and representing the U14s at regional carnivals. She also volunteers weekly as a referee for junior games, showing leadership and commitment to her community. Poppy's dedication, skill, and sportsmanship make her an outstanding athlete and role model.
4. Zali Lovett
Zali Lovett is a dedicated and talented student at Parkes East Public School who has excelled across multiple sports in 2025. She has proudly represented her school in PSSA swimming, soccer, netball, touch football, hockey, and rugby 7s, as well as the Lachlan District swimming and touch teams and the Western Region in hockey and girls' rugby league.
Beyond school, Zali plays hockey in the Parkes Hockey Competition, earning selection in both the U12 and U14 representative sides, and volunteers as a junior umpire. She is a member of the Parkes Sharks Swim Club and competes in touch football with the Parkes Pumas U12 and U14 representative teams.
Zali also plays rugby league with the Parkes Marist U12 Girls Tackle Team, named Junior League Team of the Year, and the Lachlan District Women's U12 team. Her dedication, leadership, and outstanding sportsmanship make her a standout athlete, inspiring others and demonstrating excellence, commitment, and passion across every sport she participates in.
5. Emrys Cassidy
Emrys Cassidy, aged 9, is an outstanding young athlete who has consistently excelled in athletics at both state and school levels. Over the past three years, Emrys has represented New South Wales in athletics and Little Athletics, achieving multiple medals and demonstrating remarkable dedication, skill, and sportsmanship for his age.
In 2025, Emrys's talent was further recognised when he won gold at the NSW PSSA Cross Country Championships, highlighting his commitment, perseverance, and competitive spirit. His achievements at such a young age reflect not only his natural ability but also his discipline and enthusiasm for sport.
Emrys is admired by coaches, peers, and his community for his positive attitude, determination, and love of athletics. 6. Arlo Cassidy
Arlo Cassidy, aged 11, is a talented and dedicated young athlete who has consistently excelled across multiple sports. He has represented New South Wales at state level in athletics, Little Athletics, and NSW PSSA competitions, showcasing his skill, determination, and sportsmanship.
In 2025, Arlo earned medals at the Polding Cross Country Championships, reflecting his commitment and competitive spirit. He has also represented his school and district in Rugby League, demonstrating versatility and leadership both on and off the field.

Toby Morgan, a Parkes local from the Trundle area, has had an extraordinary year in athletics, building on years of consistent achievement. In 2025, Toby represented NSW in Para U13 events at the Australian Little Athletics Championships, winning gold in javelin and 400m and silver in 100m, 200m, and 800m. He also competed in the U15 Para events at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships in Perth, earning bronze in the 1500m and running the 200m faster than the world record for his classification (pending international recognition).
This year, Toby set six national records across 100m, 200m, 800m, javelin, discus, and long jump. Beyond track and field, he also competed in swimming and cross-country. Known for his dedication and perseverance, Toby inspires both able-bodied and para-athletes alike. Featured in The Land Newspaper as a rising star, Toby continues to train in Trundle with his coach Ian, embodying excellence, commitment, and the pride of the Parkes Shire community.
9. Jett Johnstone
Jett Johnstone has had an exceptional year in hockey, demonstrating skill, dedication, and leadership at both state and national levels. In 2025, he was selected in the NSW U18 Boys team and the NSW U16 Boys Indoor team, showcasing his versatility and talent across formats. His achievements also include selection in the Australian Joeys U17 team, representing Australia on a national touring squad.
Looking ahead, he has been named in the 2026 NSW U18 Boys squad, reflecting his continued development and elite potential. His outstanding performances at the club and representative levels were recognised when he was awarded the Parkes Hockey Inc Most Outstanding Junior Male for 2025.

10. Elly Thornberry
Elly Thornberry has had an outstanding year in hockey, demonstrating remarkable skill, dedication, and leadership. In 2025, she was selected for the NSW U18 Blues team, the NSW U18 Girls Indoor shadow squad, and the NSW Combined High Schools Open Girls team, reflecting her versatility across multiple formats and levels.
Her achievements were recognised locally and regionally, earning her the title of Western Region Academy of Sport Hockey Athlete of the Year and Parkes High School Senior Sportswoman of the Year. She has also been awarded Parkes Hockey Inc Most Outstanding Junior Female for 2025.

Archie Daley has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill, dedication, and leadership in hockey. In 2025, he was selected for the NSW U18 Boys Blues team, the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Open Boys team, and the NSW U16 Boys Blues Indoor team, showcasing his versatility and excellence across formats and age levels.
Archie's outstanding performance was preceded by his selection in the 2024 NSW All Schools Open Boys Merit Team, reflecting his sustained high-level achievement and commitment to the sport. Looking ahead, he has been named in the 2026 NSW U18 Boys squad, highlighting his ongoing development and potential at elite state levels.

12. Flynn Thompson
Flynn Thompson has emerged as a talented and dedicated hockey player, representing NSW in the U18 Boys Indoor team in 2025 and again selected for 2026. Flynn's consistent performance, skill, and commitment to the sport highlight his potential as an elite-level athlete. Known for his teamwork and discipline, he continues to develop as a strong competitor and a valued member of his representative teams.
13. Sam Westcott
Sam Westcott has demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in hockey, earning multiple representative honours in 2025. He was selected for the NSW U16 Boys team, the NSW U16 Boys Indoor team, the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges team, and the NSW All Schools Open Merit Team, reflecting his versatility and high performance across formats. In 2026, Sam continues to progress, selected for the NSW U18 Boys squad and the NSW U16 Boys Indoor team. 14. Patrick (PJ) McPherson
Patrick (PJ) McPherson has shown outstanding talent and commitment in hockey, earning multiple representative selections. In 2025, he achieved NSW U16 Boys Shadow selection, NSW U14 Boys Indoor Shadow selection, and selection in the NSW Combined High Schools U15 team, highlighting his versatility and skill across formats. Building on this success, PJ has been named in the 2026 NSW U16 Boys squad and the NSW U16 Boys Blues Indoor team. 15. Jack Dunford
Jack Dunford has demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in hockey, earning selection in the 2025 NSW U14 Boys Blue Team. Jack's achievement at state-level competition highlights his talent and potential, marking him as a rising star in junior hockey and a valued member of his school and community sporting teams.
16. Daisy Rice
Daisy Rice has shown remarkable talent and dedication in hockey, earning selection in the 2025 NSW U14 Girls Team and the 2026 NSW U14 Girls Blues Indoor Team. Her skill, commitment, and teamwork on and off the field highlight her as a rising junior athlete. Daisy's achievements at the state level reflect her passion for the sport and mark her as a promising contributor to both school and regional hockey programs.
17. Tom Rix
Tom Rix is an accomplished young hockey player, having earned selection in the 2025 NSW Combined High Schools Open Boys Team and the 2026 NSW U18 Boys Squad. His skill, dedication, and consistent performance at the state level highlight his strong work ethic and potential for further success. Tom's commitment to the sport and ability to contribute effectively in team environments mark him as a rising talent in regional and state hockey.
18. Grace Macgregor
Grace Macgregor has enjoyed an exceptional season across Rugby League and League Tag, excelling at both local and representative levels. A trailblazer for Parkes Minor JRL, Grace became the club's first-ever player/coach, guiding her team to a preliminary final and earning the prestigious Taleisha Quinn Medal as Female Player of the Year. She also played senior League Tag with the Parkes Spacecats, where she was named Rookie of the Year.
Grace represented Lachlan District in both Under 18s and Opens Women's Tackle, winning the Under 18s Best and Fairest award. Her outstanding performances led to selection in the NSW Southern Country Under 18s and NSWCCC teams, competing at the National Championships.
Capping off a remarkable year, Grace played in the Canterbury Bulldogs Lisa Fiaola Cup and has been contracted for the 2026 season. Off the field, she served as a PMJRL club captain and is a respected role model with a bright future ahead.
19. Max Jones
Max Jones has enjoyed an outstanding year in squash, earning recognition for his exceptional achievements at state, national and international levels. Having played squash for approximately five years under the guidance of coaches Jay and Henry Kross, Max's dedication and talent have seen him rise rapidly through the ranks.
In 2025, Max achieved the remarkable double of winning both the NSW Under 15 Junior Title in Sydney and the Australian Under 15 Junior Title in Ballarat. He was ranked number one in NSW and number one in Australia for his age group, an extraordinary accomplishment. Max represented Parkes High School, the CHS Western Region, NSW Under 15s, and the Australian CHS Under 15 team, helping secure historic victories over Queensland and New Zealand.
Competing above his age group, Max recorded podium finishes in Under 17 and Under 19 events and won multiple junior opens. Off the court, he gives back by coaching younger players in Parkes. His commitment, sportsmanship and success make him a truly deserving nominee.
20. Taj Lovett
Taj Lovett is a standout junior rugby league talent from Parkes, whose 2025 season saw him rise to prominence through exceptional performances and accolades.
Playing as a versatile forward in the Under 18s division for the Parkes Spacemen, Taj's dynamic playmaking and athleticism helped him lead his team's try‑scoring tally with 15 tries and tally an impressive 70 points for the season.
His skill and flair were recognised when he was awarded the Peter McDonald Premiership 2025 Try of the Year for a spectacular chip‑and‑chase score judged best across all grades.
He was also honoured with the Steve Sullivan Memorial Award for Most Outstanding Junior at the club's presentation night. Adding to his achievements, Taj represented the Narwan Eels in the Under 17s NSW Koori Knockout, where he scored the only try in the grand final to help secure the championship.
21. Emma Rippon
Emma Rippon is a dedicated cricketer from Tullamore whose commitment to the sport has taken her far beyond her hometown. Each week during the NSW cricket season, Emma travels approximately 900 km round trip to Sydney to compete in the NSW Women's Premier Cricket competition with Penrith Cricket Club, reflecting her passion, resilience and commitment to reaching her full potential.
In recognition of her development and contribution to the club, she was awarded the Coaches Encouragement Award for the 2024/25 season at Penrith.
Emma has also represented an international Australian‑Indian Women's Cricket Association (AIWCA) team in an ICC‑sanctioned tournament in Bali, competing against teams from across the region and helping the side achieve strong finishes in both T20 and T10 formats.
Her dedication, long‑distance commitment and international experience make her an inspiring young athlete in the Parkes Shire cricket community.
Sports Team of the Year
The Team of the Year award recognises the most outstanding sports team in the Parkes Shire.
1. Parkes Men's Premier League Hockey Team
The Parkes United Men's Premier League team achieved an extraordinary milestone in 2025, completing the season undefeated and claiming the Premier League Grand Final on home turf. This remarkable feat marks only the second time in the club's history that they have won the title, highlighting a season of dominance, skill, and teamwork.
Over the course of the year, the team scored an astonishing 65 goals while conceding only nine, demonstrating both attacking prowess and defensive strength. Their consistency, discipline, and unity on the field set them apart, earning admiration from fans and competitors alike.
This historic season is a testament to the players' dedication, the coaching staff's guidance, and the support of the local community. The 2025 Parkes Men's Premier League team has not only secured a place in club history but also inspired future generations, proving what can be achieved through teamwork, commitment, and passion for the game.
2. Parkes U18 Boys Hockey rep team
Winners of the Boys Division 1 2025 NSW State Championships, the team delivered an outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Their skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship earned them the 'Play the Whistle' award for Division 1, recognising their fair play and dedication on the field.Standout player Will Rix was named Player of the Championship, highlighting his exceptional contribution to the team's success. This achievement reflects the talent, commitment, and determination of the players and coaching staff, and marks a significant milestone in their sporting journey.
3. Parkes Girls U18 Hockey rep team
Parkes Girls U18 Hockey Team – Winners of the 2025 NSW State Championships Division 3, the team demonstrated outstanding skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament. Their consistent performances and commitment to each other led them to claim the championship, highlighting the depth of talent and dedication within the Parkes Girls U18 squad.
This achievement reflects the hard work of the players, coaches, and support staff, and showcases the strong sporting culture within the region. The team's success not only celebrates their skill on the field but also their sportsmanship, resilience, and camaraderie, making them a worthy representation of Parkes hockey at the state level.
4. Parkes Boars Women's Rugby team
The Parkes Boars Women's Rugby team had an outstanding 2025 season, finishing as runners‑up in the Central West Women's competition, showcasing determination, skill and strong team spirit throughout the year. The squad battled through the season to reach the Grand Final, overcoming challenges and exceeding expectations. Their performance highlighted the growth of women's rugby in the region and demonstrated their commitment to excellence on the field. The Boars' effort in 2025 has inspired local participation and strengthened the club's presence within the Central West Rugby community. Their runner‑up finish stands as a testament to their hard work, teamwork and competitive drive.
5. U14 Boys Rugby League team
The U14 Boys Rugby League team from Parkes had a stellar 2025 season, winning the Lachlan Junior League Championships and earning recognition as the best U14 side in the region. The team demonstrated exceptional skill, teamwork and determination throughout the season, overcoming tough opposition across the regional competition.
Players displayed strong defensive structures, sharp attacking plays, and impressive individual performances that contributed to their dominant campaign. The Coach / Trainer / Manager of the Year Award recognises excellence in coaching, training or managing sportspersons or teams.
1. Linda Snyman
Linda is the driving force behind the Parkes Dragon Boat Club, serving as President, Coach, sweep, and paddler since the club's formation in 2018. She discovered dragon boating at a local "Come and Try" event and quickly became a passionate founding member.
As a Level 3 sweep, Level 1 coach, and representative paddler, Linda has proudly represented New South Wales and the Western Region at multiple state and regional competitions, including the 2019 State Championships, 2021 Region vs Region, and Masters events in Adelaide and Canberra.
Beyond her personal achievements, Linda's leadership and coaching are exceptional. She fosters an inclusive, supportive, and safety-focused environment, welcoming members of all ages and abilities. Her organisational skills ensure smooth training sessions, regatta preparation, and club operations, from towing the boat to coordinating schedules.
Under Linda's guidance, several members have gone on to represent at regattas. Her dedication, positivity, and encouragement make her an invaluable leader, fostering teamwork, confidence, and a strong sense of community in the club.
2. Teegan Rodgers
Teegan Rodgers, a teacher at Parkes East Public School, is deeply committed to coaching and supporting school and community sports, including touch football, Rugby 7s, and squash. She generously volunteers her time and expertise, helping students and young athletes achieve their personal best.
Under Teegan's guidance, the Parkes East girls touch football team reached the finals of the Western Region PSSA knockout, and she has been selected multiple times as NSW Girls PSSA touch football manager, recognising her dedication and skill. Locally, she coaches the Under-14 Parkes Pumas girls touch football team, nurturing talent and encouraging teamwork within the community.
Teegan also volunteered as manager for the inaugural Marist U12 girls Rugby League team, which went on to win the club's Team of the Year, and managed the Lachlan District Women's U12 Rugby League team, achieving six wins from seven matches.
Balancing teaching and motherhood, Teegan's unwavering commitment, leadership, and generosity make her a highly respected mentor and role model in Parkes sport.
3. Jack Elliott
Jack has demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill in coaching hockey across all ages throughout 2025. He has provided consistent, high-quality coaching, working weekly with junior teams ranging from preschool players through to high school athletes.
In addition to his commitment at the grassroots level, Jack coached representative teams with outstanding success: the Parkes U10s rep team, the Parkes U18 Boys rep team (winners of the Division 1 NSW State Championships), and the Parkes Men's Premier League team (winners of the Central West Men's Premier League competition). He also facilitated weekly coaching sessions for junior squad players, nurturing skill development and a love for the game.
In recognition of his tireless dedication and impact on the local hockey community, Jack was honoured with the Parkes Hockey Inc Glenn & Cherie Johnstone Dedication to Coaching Award in 2025.
4. Grant Skinner
For more than five years, Grant Skinner has been a dedicated volunteer coach with the Parkes Swimming Club, giving countless hours to support and develop local swimmers. Balancing full-time work and family life, Grant regularly runs early morning training sessions from 5.45am up to four days a week, as well as afternoon squads, all in a completely voluntary role.
Under his guidance, the club has seen outstanding success, with more swimmers qualifying for state championships in the past two years than ever before. In 2024, Grant went above and beyond by organising and driving a sponsored bus to take boys' and girls' 12–14 years relay teams to the State Championships at Sydney Olympic Park, ensuring every swimmer had the opportunity to compete.
Beyond coaching, Grant also volunteers as a check starter at Friday night time trials and the annual Parkes Swimming Carnival. His tireless commitment has helped grow participation, with 195 swimmers attending the 2025 carnival. Grant is a true role model whose passion, leadership and community spirit continue to strengthen local sport.
5. Sarah Hartin
Sarah Hartin is a highly respected coach and founder of the Parkes Running Group, recognised for her outstanding contribution to athletics development and community sport. Through her inclusive and supportive coaching approach, Sarah has helped athletes of all ages build confidence, resilience and a love of running.
She has played a significant role in the success of Parkes Little Athletics members Ryker Moore and Emrys Cassidy, guiding them through structured training and mentorship. Under Sarah's coaching, Ryker Moore has achieved strong representative results, while Emrys Cassidy achieved an outstanding milestone by winning gold at the NSW PSSA Cross Country Championships, a remarkable achievement at state level.
Sarah's commitment extends beyond competition, fostering a positive team culture that encourages personal growth, goal setting and community connection. Her dedication, leadership and ability to inspire young athletes have made a lasting impact on running and athletics in the Parkes Shire.
6. Jay Kross
Jay Kross is a dedicated squash coach and a driving force behind the success of Parkes' junior squash program, mentoring young athletes to regional, national and international recognition.
As a long-time figure in the Parkes squash community and part of the Parkes Services Squash Centre, Jay has helped foster a strong culture of skill development and competitive excellence.
Under his guidance, Henry Kross has emerged as one of Australia's most promising junior squash players, achieving national selection, top finishes in Australian Junior Championships and state representation, while also being named a Rising Star and representing Australia on the international stage.
Jay has also coached Max Jones to notable success, including winning the Under-15 title at the Australian Junior Championships and representing NSW and Australia alongside Henry. Their achievements reflect Jay's commitment to athlete development and the growth of squash in the Parkes region.
7. Kim Robertson
Kim Robertson is a respected athletics official from Parkes whose commitment to Little Athletics and broader athletics competition has earned her state and national opportunities. As a passionate volunteer and member of the Parkes Little Athletics committee, Kim has specialised in technical officiating across a wide range of track and field events, ensuring competitions are conducted fairly, safely and to the required standards.
In 2025 she was selected to serve as an official at the Australian Junior and Open Athletics Championships, where she took on key responsibilities in managing events and supporting fellow officials throughout the competition. At the national championships, Kim not only helped oversee event operations but also relished the chance to watch local athletes compete, demonstrating her deep support for her community's sporting talent.

1. Lachlan Reynolds
Lachlan Reynolds has been an integral part of the Parkes Pumas Touch Football Association for over 14 years, first as a player and now as a highly respected referee. He consistently represents the club at local, regional, state, and national events, demonstrating exceptional skill, professionalism, and dedication.
In 2024, Lachlan was inducted into the NSW Talented Referee Youth Squad (TRYS), earning his State Badge Grading and presenting his state jacket in 2025. He was named Most Improved Referee for the NSW South Western Suns Region and was selected into the NSW Touch Football Youth Elite Referees Squad, one of only 15 across the state. Lachlan has also represented Red Bend Catholic College and NSWCCC at national championships.
As a committee member and mentor at Parkes Pumas, Lachlan guides junior referees with patience and encouragement. 2. Emma Hando

In 2025, Emma also represented Parkes High School at school touch football carnivals and was selected to officiate at the Australian All Schools under-12/15s tournament for NSW PSSA and NSW CHS. 1. Denise Gersbach
Denise Gersbach is an outstanding Masters hockey player whose achievements in 2025 and beyond reflect her skill, leadership and dedication to the sport. In 2025, Denise was selected in the NSW Over 50s team, where her experience and commitment were further recognised through her appointment to the team's Leadership Group. Her performances at state level led to national selection, representing Australia in the 2025 Trans-Tasman Challenge as a member of the Australian Masters team.
Building on these achievements, Denise has again been recognised for her excellence with selection in the 2026 Australian Over 50s team, a testament to her consistent performance, fitness and professionalism. Denise is highly respected by teammates and opponents alike, leading by example both on and off the field. 2. Casey Miles
Casey Miles is a highly accomplished Masters hockey player whose performances in 2025 and ongoing selection in 2026 reflect her talent, commitment and consistency at the highest level. In 2025, Casey was selected in the NSW Over 34s team, earning recognition for her strong skills, teamwork and on-field leadership. Her form at state level led to national selection, representing Australia in the 2025 Trans-Tasman Challenge as a member of the Australian Masters team.
Continuing this impressive trajectory, Casey has been selected in the 2026 Australian Over 34s team, highlighting her sustained excellence and dedication to training and performance. 3. Amy Thornberry
Amy Thornberry is a highly respected contributor to hockey in Parkes, recognised for both her on-field achievements and outstanding off-field leadership. In 2025, Amy was selected in the NSW Over 45s team, reflecting her continued skill, experience and commitment to the sport at a high level.
Beyond her playing achievements, Amy plays a vital role in the development and success of women's and junior hockey in the region. She is the Team Manager for the Parkes Women's Premier League Team, the Parkes Open Women's Representative Team, the Parkes Under 18 Girls Representative Team and the Parkes Under 18 Girls Indoor Team. 6. Tracie Sams
Tracie Sams is a skilled and committed hockey player, selected in the 2025 NSW Over 50s team. Tracie's dedication to training, teamwork, and sportsmanship exemplifies her passion for hockey and serves as an inspiration to fellow players across all levels.
7. Maureen Massey
Maureen Massey is a highly accomplished hockey player, selected in the 2025 NSW Over 70s team, the 2025 Australian Masters Trans-Tasman Challenge team, and the 2026 Over 70s Australian team. In 2025, her NSW Over 70s team was the only NSW Masters team out of eight to win gold at the Australian Women's Masters Championships in Hobart.
As a result, Maureen was selected for the Australian Over 70s Women's team to compete at the Masters Hockey World Cup in Belgium. This will be her fifth World Cup, having previously represented Australia and Parkes, winning two World Cup gold medals and one bronze. Her achievements reflect immense dedication, skill, and commitment to hockey, and she continues to inspire both teammates and the wider community with her exceptional sporting career.
8. Lee Hodge
Lee Hodge represented the ACT O45s team in 2025 and will serve as Manager of the Australian O65s Women's team in 2026. Her ongoing involvement at state and national levels highlights her leadership, experience, and dedication to hockey.
9. Ian Westcott
Ian Westcott represented the ACT O50s team and was selected for the 2025 Trans-Tasman Challenge Australian Masters team, showcasing his skill, experience, and commitment to hockey at both state and international levels.
10. Graeme Tanswell
Graeme Tanswell represented New South Wales as a member of the 2025 O55s hockey team. 11. Dusty Powter

Epi Sodrodo is a long‑serving and highly respected member of the Parkes Spacemen Rugby League Club, aged over 40 years and still playing in the senior division. His commitment to the club and love for the game have made him a mentor and role model for younger players, exemplifying sportsmanship and perseverance. 1. Denise Gersbach
Denise Gersbach is a highly respected leader in women's Masters hockey. She coordinates Parkes women's Masters teams across indoor and outdoor state championships, the Western Masters League, and various carnival and invitational events. Beyond her local contributions, Denise serves as Hockey Australia Masters Committee Administration and Communications Officer and is an active member of the Hockey NSW Women's Masters Committee. Her dedication, organisational skills, and commitment to fostering participation and excellence in Masters hockey have made her a valued mentor and leader within the sport.
2. Sally-Anne McPherson
Sally-Anne McPherson plays a pivotal role in developing junior hockey in Parkes as the Parkes Junior Hockey Director, coordinating teams, weekly draws, duties, and representative squads. In 2025, they served as manager for the NSW U14 Girls Blues team and the Parkes U16 Boys representative team. They were also instrumental in hosting major state events in Parkes, including the Combined High Schools Open Girls State Championships and the U14 Boys State Championships. 3. Kate Thomas
Kate Thomas is a dedicated rugby league administrator deeply involved in the Parkes rugby community. She has served for many years in key administrative roles with Parkes Marist Junior Rugby League, including as Secretary, all while managing a full‑time professional career. Her commitment has helped sustain and grow the junior game, supporting players, volunteers and club operations across numerous seasons.
Kate now also contributes to the Parkes Spacemen Senior Rugby League in administrative capacities, helping coordinate club activities and development pathways for players of all ages. In 2025, she secured significant club support through the Parkes Shire Sports Grants Program, with funding for training and equipment, reflecting her ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots rugby league in the region.
4. Angela Bottaro-Porter
Angela Bottaro‑Porter is a highly respected leader in Parkes & District Amateur Soccer Association, recognised for her long‑term commitment and service to the sport. A life member of the Parkes & District Amateur Soccer Association, Angela has held key executive roles including Treasurer and currently Secretary, helping guide the organisation's growth and governance.
She also contributes at a regional level through the Lachlan Amateur Soccer Association, helping coordinate the Lachlan Region Youth League with the aim of expanding youth participation. In addition to her administrative roles, Angela coaches local teams and was honoured as Regional Female Coach of the Year at the Football NSW Coaching Conference, reflecting her dedication to development and grassroots soccer.

Greg Morrisey
Greg Morrissey has devoted decades to fostering children's sport with unwavering dedication. Before retiring, he served as a teacher and sports coordinator at Parkes East Public School, guiding generations of students in athletics, swimming, and cricket. He held key leadership roles including Lachlan District secretary and treasurer, and coach and convenor for Lachlan PSSA and Western Region PSSA Cricket. Even in retirement, Greg continues to volunteer as a cricket selector, scorer, and recorder at school swimming and athletics carnivals, generously sharing his expertise with young teachers and sports coordinators.
For over 50 years, Greg has been a pillar of the Parkes Cricket Association, serving as secretary of both the Parkes and District Cricket Association and the Lachlan Cricket Council. He has also contributed as a Level 2 cricket coach, umpire, scorer, and committee member, undertaking roles such as grounds inspection officer, child safety officer, publicity officer, Blast Into Cricket coordinator, and equipment officer.
Known for his humility, commitment, and reliability, Greg prefers to work quietly behind the scenes, yet his impact on children's sport across the region is immeasurable. His tireless efforts and passion for nurturing young athletes make him a role model and an invaluable contributor to the community.
