Community groups and organisations across the Parkes Shire are reminded that applications are still open for Parkes Shire Council's 2026 Cultural Grants Program, with just weeks remaining to apply.

The annual program offers funding of $2,000 or more to support projects that enrich the cultural life of the region through art, music, workshops and community events. A total funding pool of $10,000 is available to support initiatives that bring people together and celebrate local creativity.

Applications close at 5pm on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.

Parkes Shire Council's Manager Cultural, Education and Library Services, Kerryn Jones, encouraged community groups not to miss the opportunity.

"With the closing date fast approaching, now is the time to turn your ideas into action," Ms Jones said.

"We've seen how these grants can make a real difference, supporting projects that connect communities, build skills and celebrate the unique character of our region."

Previous funding rounds have supported a wide range of successful initiatives. In 2025, Parkes Community Arts expanded the popular Who Is Parkes project, adding large-scale portraits across Parkes and surrounding townships, while the Peak Hill PA & H Association delivered Crafting Connections workshops ahead of the Peak Hill Show.

Funding has also supported engaging community experiences such as free cooking demonstrations delivered by Ranger Nick at Trundle Bush Tucker Day. Suitable for all age groups, the sessions introduced attendees to new flavours and cooking techniques while showcasing traditional Australian bush cooking methods. The demonstrations featured native ingredients such as bush tomato, saltbush, Davidson plum and finger lime, with attendees invited to sample the dishes and learn more about native flavours. Feedback from the community was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the unique and educational experience.

The Cultural Grants Program aims to increase cultural activity across the region, support innovative projects and events, and help local creatives and community groups bring their ideas to life.

Community groups are encouraged to submit their applications soon and take advantage of the support available.
