Parkes Shire Council welcomes the NSW Government's announcement of new electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for regional NSW, with three new charging ports set to be delivered across the Parkes Shire local government area.
The investment forms part of the NSW Government's $5.9 million EV Destination Charging Grants program, which will deliver 159 new chargers across 48 regional locations. The rollout aims to make electric vehicle travel easier and more accessible, particularly along major road trip routes and at key tourism destinations.
Parkes Shire Mayor, Cr Neil Westcott, said the new charging ports will deliver long-term benefits for the community and the local economy.
"Parkes Shire is pleased to be included in this latest round of EV Destination Charging Grants, with three new charging ports set to be delivered across our local government area," Cr Westcott said.
"This investment will make it easier for residents and visitors to travel confidently through our region, while also strengthening our position as a connected and future-focused community. We welcome the opportunities this will bring for local tourism and our economy as more travellers stop, recharge and explore what Parkes Shire has to offer."
The chargers will be powered by renewable energy and installed at locations designed to support local businesses and visitor activity.
