The Tasmanian Government has today introduced the Child Safety Reform Implementation Monitor Bill 2024.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Guy Barnett, said that this was an important milestone as the Government implements all recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry.
"The Bill creates the statutory role of the independent reform Monitor to oversee and report on the implementation of the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry," the Attorney-General said.
"This is about accountability and ensuring that we are delivering on our important commitments to all Tasmanians.
"The Bill sets out the objectives and functions of the Monitor, specifies the skills and experience required, as well as the terms of their appointment.
"Similarly, it provides the Monitor with the appropriate powers to undertake the role.
"We are totally committed to getting this right – and if we are to deliver on our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we must not let Tasmanians down."
