Registrations are now open for Parrtjima, which returns to the heart of Australia to illuminate the world's oldest continuous culture. Through a free, 10-night program of light, art, music, and storytelling, the desert will once again come alive from 10-19 April 2026 against the breathtaking backdrop of the MacDonnell Ranges, offering a unique cultural experience guided by First Nations voices.
Marking its 11th iteration, the 2026 festival will explore the theme Language. This theme will be brought to life through spectacular new light installations and interactive experiences that honour the power, rhythm, and beauty of language, from ancient songlines and oral traditions to contemporary expressions of identity.
Visitors will be invited to connect with Country through interactive language workshops, encouraging them to see, hear, and feel the living spirit of language as a bridge between people and place.
Parrtjima is the only authentic Aboriginal light festival of its kind, offering a deep cultural experience that draws thousands from across Australia and the world to Mparntwe (Alice Springs). The festival is proudly grounded on the Country of the Mparntwe, Antulye, and Irlpme estates, with Traditional Owners and custodians ensuring every element remains culturally authentic and respectful.
The Opening Weekend will feature a Welcome Ceremony and a highly anticipated performance by the acclaimed electronic music duo Electric Fields on Friday, 10 April. Festival favourites, the MacDonnell Ranges Light Show and the Grounded installation-which showcases animated artworks by Central Australian artists-will also return, complemented by several new installations designed for the 2026 theme. The weekend will also see the return of the popular Blak Markets, along with bush food workshops and live music performances each night.
Delivered by the Northern Territory Government in partnership with We Are Gather and Grumpy Sailor, Parrtjima continues to deliver significant social and economic benefits, cementing its place as a major tourism drawcard for the Northern Territory. In 2025, the award-winning event attracted over 21,000 attendances, generating $9.42 million for the local economy and directly benefiting Alice Springs.
