Part of Strzelecki Track closed to traffic, South Australia

Part of the Strzelecki Track, in the far north west of South Australia, has been closed to traffic following a report of a small gas release in the Cooper Basin.

About 1pm today SA Police were advised of a release, about 50km south of Innamincka, and that public road closures had been put in place as part of the management of the situation.

Information about the closure of the track is available on the Department of Transport, Planning and Infrastructure website: https://www.dpti.sa.gov.au/OutbackRoads - and the electronic signs in the area have been updated. The website notes that the Strzelecki Track is closed from Innamincka to Merty Merty.

Local businesses and roadhouses have been advised by police and asked to pass the information on to motorists in the area.

SA Police request that anyone intending to travel to the area delay their departure and continue to monitor the situation.

Santos have advised there is no risk to the public.
