An elderly man has died in hospital following a crash in Sydney's southwest earlier this week.
About 6.15pm on Thursday (21 May 2026), emergency services responded to Shirley Road, Padstow, after reports a pedestrian had been hit.
Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attended and found that an 83-year-old man had been trapped under a Honda hatchback following a crash.
He was freed by Fire and Rescue NSW crews before being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
Another pedestrian, an 81-year-old woman, was also treated at the scene for head injuries and taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
The driver – a 71-year-old woman – was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash was commenced with the assistance of specialists from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Yesterday (Saturday 23 May 2026), police were notified that the 83-year-old had died in hospital. The 81-year-old woman remains in hospital in a stable condition.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
