Permit processes improved for business

When it comes to doing business, Mitchell Shire Council want to make it as smooth as possible for businesses to establish, develop and expand in the Shire.

Local businesses said our permit system needed to improve, and we've listened. As a result, a business concierge service has now been established to assist small businesses with permit applications and setting up a new business.

The improvements come at a time when people are looking to invest in the area, with both businesses and residents looking to call Mitchell Shire home.

Council's Business Concierge Officer will support businesses in understanding which permits are required, and what documentation is needed to go through the Council permit process. An online self-assessment form, that will also assist in the process, is now available as well.

The Business Concierge, which was created as part of the Better Approvals Project, can also arrange for the various Council departments to meet with the business and discuss proposals, providing greater clarity on Council regulations and processes which will ensure the business understands what is required.

Better Approvals has streamlined and refined the process of starting or expanding a business in Mitchell Shire by removing the need to complete several forms for Council.

Mitchell Shire Council is a signatory to the Small Business Friendly Charter, where it committed to Better Approvals to streamline the permit approvals process for small businesses. The project has been supported by the Victorian State Government.
