Personal visits suspended – all prisons

Due to cases of COVID-19 in New South Wales, and the unknown spread of cases, the difficult decision has been made to suspend personal visits in prisons across Queensland.

This decision was made to protect the safety of prisoners and our officers on advice from Queensland Health. All correctional centres and community corrections offices will implement Stage 2 restrictions as of December 23.

Professional visits, including legal, service provider and official visits will continue with appropriate social distancing.

Every person entering the prison will undergo health screening including thermal imaging, and new reception prisoners are subject to 14-day isolation protocols.

We understand that this will have an impact, especially on families over the holiday period and we thank everyone for their patience and understanding at this difficult time.

There are many other ways to continue to contact a prisoner.
