Pet Registration Renewal Ensures Safety

Sunshine Coast Council

Owners of the 11,842 cats and 54,000 plus dogs, currently registered on the Sunshine Coast, will be receiving a renewal notice via email or post before September 30.

As a proud pet parent to sassy miniature dachshunds Minnie and Stella, Managing for Growth Portfolio Councillor Winston Johnston knows the importance of pet registration.

"Our fur babies, nine-year-old Minnie and two-year-old Stella are a much-loved part of our family," Cr Johnston said.

"If - God forbid - they got out of our gate and became lost, having them registered means they could find their way back home with Council's help.

"People insure their homes, register their cars, and keep their children's information up to date with schools in case of an emergency - why wouldn't you do the same for your pets?

"As well as reuniting people with lost pets, registration also provides funding for education programs to promote responsible pet ownership within the community.

"There is a misconception that a microchip is the only key to identifying a lost pet, but a Council tag can be used to quickly identify your furry friend over the phone, without the need for them to be taken to a vet.''

Easy ways to pay your pet registration

Registration costs just $30 (if desexed and microchipped) and $15 if you have a current pensioner card for a desexed and microchipped animal.

There is also the option of a lifetime registration for desexed and microchipped cats - only $109 with no annual renewal fee required.

There are several convenient ways to pay your registration renewal:

  • Go to MyCouncil to pay your cat or dog registration renewal using Visa or MasterCard.
  • Pay using BPay by contacting your bank to make a payment from your cheque, savings or transaction account.
  • Drop into any customer contact centre located in Maroochydore, Nambour and Caloundra.
