On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, I extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Peter Toogood MBE.
Peter was one of our finest ever sportsmen, and is a member of the Tasmanian Sporting Hall of Fame.
His achievements on the golf course are unmatched by any other Tasmanian. He was an eight-time Tasmanian Open Champion, four-time Australian Open Amateur Champion, and the Amateur Champion at the 1954 British Open. In 1981 he was awarded an MBE for services to golf and sport.
Not only was Peter a champion golfer, but he was a true gentleman and a great Tasmanian.
